"OGA AT THE TOP" NSCDC arrests six suspected oil thieves

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Friday confirmed the arrest of six suspected oil thieves and impounded six trucks loaded with liquefied natural gas.

Commandant-General of the corps, Mr Ade Abolurin, told newsmen in Abuja that the suspects were arrested in different locations within the FCT.
Abolurin said the joint operations, which were carried out by the National Headquarters of the NSCDC and the FCT Command, arrested the suspects at Dobi at Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja.

He added that the team executed the arrest through the assistance of the Department of State Security Service.

“The arrest is in respect of executing the mandate of the corps in the protection of oil and gas installation, telecommunications and PHCN equipment,” he said.

The commandant said the team impounded 33,000 litre-truck with registration number Kano XX 75 KWK, containing stolen products and five other trucks suspected to be conveying cooking gas.

According to him, the team also arrested others alleged to be vandals of PHCN armoured cables in the Sauka area, on the Airport road.

“People keep complaining about network failure; instead of blaming and abusing communication providers, we should blame these type of people in the society.

“We have been complaining about power failure here and there; this is as a result of vandals,” he said.

Abolurin, therefore, urged members of the public to assist the security operatives by giving them useful information for timely intervention.

The commandant expressed optimism that the battle against vandals of crucial natural infrastructure and oil thieves would be won if stakeholders and public cooperated with security operatives.
